Puppy Training Tips
Labradoodle Training
Train with Confidence
The BEST time to train your Cobberdog puppy, is in the puppy stage. ~ TIPS FOR DOING IT YOURSELF!
I don’t need help with this!
It is so important to set firm guidelines and to provide secure and constant love. If done properly the early training of your puppy will be the launching pad for all your happy memories of tomorrow. This training time is also the same time as the puppy and your family are creating trust bonds and pack orders, it is very important that you train your puppy in such a way that you are not going to damage or strain these relationships. Before you decide that this is impossible, remember that genuine love goes a long, long way!
Here are some of my personal favorite puppy training tips for house training a puppy or dog. I have house trained many puppies and while each puppy has had it’s own unique personality and needs, they all wanted to be in a setting where they were treated with love and respect.
Tether Training: This is a great way to train your puppy while building a strong bond of trust and friendship. All you need is a standard length leash. When you bring your puppy home, he is tethered to you with the leash. This means he/ she is never alone and you are able to watch your puppy at all times. A puppy will often want to find a quiet corner of your house to do his business. If your puppy spends the first two or three days linked to you or spending nap time in it’s crate there will be no opportunity for the puppy to start a habit of voiding on your carpets or in the corners. Also your Cobberdog puppy learns great respect for you and the leash. This method requires lots of time and puppy interaction. You will want to have 3-4 days where you have the time to spend totally with your puppy.
I train the Cobberdog puppies to ring the Poochie Bells when they want out. This is a very easy method to teach your pup. When you get your puppy into your home, be very consistent with him. Hang the bells on the hook by your door. (Hooks and bells available in our gift shop) Every 2 hours take your puppy to the bells, gently help your puppy to ring the bells with their paw. As they are ringing the bells be giving them the cue words that you and your family have decided on before hand. Such as “ring your bells” or simple “Bells”. Within a 2-3 day time frame your new little pup will be ringing the bells when ever it wants to go out. I love the bell method as it totally takes away the need for the puppy to whine or bark. Also there is a clear signal right from the start of what you expect the pup to do when it wants to go outside, no guess work at all.
Crate Training is another very useful tool in training a new puppy. A nice sized crate fitted to their tiny selves that can be made larger as they grow is perfect. In this crate you should have a nice soft covering on the floor, and a lumpy toy, to imitate the feel of sleeping an a lumpy pile of puppies. I also like to have a nice sturdy toy such as a Kong for the puppy to chew and teeth on. The crate is to be the puppy personal space and a safe haven for him to retreat into at any time. If the crate is a friendly safe place the puppy will have no trouble at all in going into the crate for naps and bedtime with the door closed for safety. Crates and Kong toys are available in the gift shop as well.
One last tip. I would recommend that the easiest way to house train your new puppy is Gradual Infiltration. By this I mean when you take the puppy home don’t give it free roam of the whole house. Gate off the kitchen or laundry where there is likely to be a hard floor that is easy to clean up accidents. The puppy will also feel less overwhelmed by all the newness. This will give the puppy less places to go to hide and have accidents. If you and your family want to spend time in the den and you want the pup to join you, feel free to take the puppy along for snuggling, but as soon as you cannot watch the pup 100% of the time return it to the designated place. It will not hurt the pup to learn to be on it’s own for short periods of time, even if you are home. This will totally eliminate unpleasant surprises. As your puppy gets trustworthy make the free space bigger and bigger and with in a month or two you will be able to have your puppy roaming freely all over your home!
I always say it is easier to start off in a controlled environment and give more room as needed and is trusted than to need to start over after a week or two of frustrated

We offer an amazing training program along with offering the best ever companion dogs! The Cobberdog is incredibly intelligent and needs to be trained. Trained to use it’s intelligence for productive things instead of mischief. We have several trainers who work along side us who understand the Cobberdog. They use a balanced training method to achieve the best in each pup they work with. The trainers work on potty training, crate training, leash training and basic commands, like sit, stay, come when called. The trainers spend time with the puppies exposing them to many different environments and experiences, and people. The goal is to have the puppies calm and confident in as many different situations as possible. This is SUPER helpful as the pup matures, making them a well rounded relaxed and happy companion for everyone in the home. My trainers use positive and balanced training methods with each pup they train.

As soon as the puppies are born, they enter our BRONZE STAGE
We are so pleased with our Bronze Imprint and Training Cobberdog puppies, they are the babies of our program and so SO SUPER sweet and learning and growing so quickly.
In our BRONZE stage Imprint is the piece that gets the most attention. We work with each pup everyday to ensure that they are socialized very well. We have multiple people playing with the puppies, so they are exposed to different voices as well as personalities, this is a huge step in creating a confident and calm dog.
These first weeks are so super important int he over all life of your Cobberdog, that we do not want to leave anything to chance.
Bronze has our puppies playing most of the day with it’s litter mates and mother. This is great for the puppies to learn gentle bite and how to be a polite playmates with other dogs and with people. It is great fun to watch the puppies learn from mom about not biting too hard and to play nice, to leave her alone when she asks.
BRONZE has the puppies being played with everyday by our trainers being sure to handle the puppy’s ears and paws, touching them all over so they are ready to live a life of calmness, when at the groomer or you want to check the paw for a sticker.
BRONZE exposes the puppies to as many different sounds and sights as we are able to do’s in a safe way. Making each new experience into a fun and happy time builds confidence
BRONZE vet care is keeping the pup up to date with their shots and making sure they are microchipped and all their individual paperwork is completed. Ready to an easy transition on adoption day.
SILVER LEVEL IN HOUSE IMPRINT & TRAINING
Arrowheads SILVER Imprint and training program includes
HOURS of time…… with adults, with children and with other dogs. Inside, outside and hearing lots of new noises and feeling new sensations.
This SILVER Cobberdog pup gets regular leash walks and tether time on a leash. The leash walks can be with a group or by themselves, with one of our amazing In House trainers. The tether time is to help these puppies to relax and settle while being expected to stay in the same area. It is super helpful for a pup to not be allowed to go everywhere they want to go when they are in the puppy/learning phase.
Our SILVER Imprint program, also has the puppies doing all business outside, via a doggy door or on leash while walking… This is incredibly helpful when transitioning to a new home. All that needs to be done is establish a meaningful connection between pup and new family, and the potty training should be pretty seamless. You will want to follow the schedule we send home with you closely, for the puppies comfort and your ease.
SILVER, training/imprint also includes, regular crate time. This varies by the day so the pup learns to be in the crate alone happily and with another pup happily. Crate training is a wonderful way to promote good independence for the pup it is important that the pup has alone time and does not “NEED” to always be with its people. Also the pup learns to hold it’s bladder, bowels and learns self control. A crate that is your pups “bedroom” is a wonderful asset to any pup and a new home.
SILVER, also means this pup is COMPETED with first year vet care!
Completely up to date with its shots, first shots, & second shots & rabbis shots, and booster shot has been completed. Micro chip completed. Spay / Neuter completed. This pup has had a physical with the vet twice and is in perfect health.
